The DBC200 Club

Bowling greens and the associated buildings and equipment are not cheap to run and maintain, whereas the cost of participation is very reasonable.  This is why most bowls clubs can only survive with volunteer labour from their members and outside funding, and even then balancing the books is always a challenge.

It’s for this reason the committee of Duxford Bowls Club came up with an idea of remaining more self-sufficient, by the establishment of a Club lottery – so, the “DBC200 Club” was born in 2022.   It was envisaged that membership would be limited to 200, hence the name. As it turned out this proved an ambitious target, but even at its present membership of just 100 it raised almost £500 in its first year. Lottery ticket holders participate in six prize draws, at a one-off cost of £12 – equivalent to £2 per draw – with the top prize of £100 being drawn at the Bowls Club’s Christmas social.

(Details of how the 200 Club operates, together with an application form, can be found in the attached pdf.)
